  Group Awards

A further option to help your Balanced Programme are the three Group Awards. They are undertaken by a number of Sections working together. For example, the Cub Scout Pack working with the Scout Troop, or the Beaver Scout Colony, Cub Scout Pack, Scout Troop and an Explorer Scout Unit working together.

Each Group Award is based on a long-term project, which the Group works on together over a period of at least three to six months. The Group leadership team outlines the project and the involvement that each Section will have in it. Set yourself a start date and a completion date. You should develop an action plan, carry it out and evaluate it. Once the project is completed, the decision to award the badge to all Members is that of the leadership team involved in the project (although you may wish to involve your District or County/Area Commissioner).

  Activity Badges

There are a number of Activity Badges available to Explorer Scouts. These build on the requirements of the Activity Badges in the Scout Section and lead towards the requirements for National Governing Body Awards. This chapter lists the requirements for all Explorer Scout Activity Badges.

The requirements of the Activity Badges should be adapted for Explorer Scouts with Special Needs. This should be done together with the Explorer Scout, their parents or carers and any other appropriate Adviser.

  Certificate of Achievement

This is awarded to you at the end of every year you are an Explorer Scout. It should show what you have done over the previous year and what you intend to do next year. When you have received your Certificate of Achievement, put it in your National Record of Achievement to show what you have achieved in Scouting. Be proud of it and keep it safe you may find it useful when applying for jobs or further education.
